Movie Review: John Wick
John Wick, an ex-hitman, combat expert, lover of dogs. John Wick is a refreshing action movie which manages to beat all of it's recent competition by balancing plausibility and the extraordinary. Keanu Reeves' character is shown many times not to be invincible, he is in fact only human. Despite this we watch Wick kill hundreds of people each in their own creative way, much like The Matrix, Keanu Reeves' martial arts training makes these scene very satisfying to watch. The movie manages you to both convince you that John Wick is a living legend, and that he is a mere, single human capable of only so much.
The story follows Wick, a grieving man, his wife has just passed. His wife leaves him a dog who is quickly killed by Russian gangsters Wick had fought so hard to escape from. Despite a seemingly shallow plot, this movie has a rather well-thought out world behind it. The movie fits nicely with it's sequels, adding to the rules it has set for the audience rather than changing them.
This movie and it's sequels are refreshing entertainment which outclass most of the day's action movies.
